Steyr AUG’s role in a team is to be a support DPS like M4A1 and Ribeyrolles. This means that she will mainly be sitting on tile 4 to provide buffs to other ARs and SMGs through her tiles, which give 12% Damage and 20% Accuracy buffs. Her tiles combined with the fact that she is an AR and thus enjoys a decent stat base already make AUG a very compelling choice, but the fact that she cycles through 10 frames to shoot instead of 12 when her Skill is active defies the standards set by most ARs in the best possible way. Overall, AUG is a great unit to have as there aren’t many choices in the support DPS role, but the fact that her Skill has such a strong effect and increases her DPS substantially seals the deal. It’s impossible to not recommend her for general purpose AR teams.
Buffs all Units
AUG’s tiles grant any unit in their coverage 12% Damage and 20% Accuracy, making her incredibly versatile. Most of the time her buff tiles will serve to help the performance of only ARs and offtank SMGs, but this isn’t a weakness.
Strongest RoF self-buff Skill
AUG’s Skill sets her RoF to 150 which results in her shooting every 10 frames instead of the regular 12 frame cap of ARs. This makes her DPS nothing short of great without further assistance while it lasts.
AUG is one of the very few support DPS ARs available in the game and thus enjoys a nearly guaranteed chance of usage. Her buff tiles buff all unit classes with 12% Damage and 20% Accuracy – and while these buffs aren’t particularly potent and are certainly worse than a direct counterpart like M4A1, AUG can make up for it with her own DPS. AUG’s Skill sets her Rate of Fire to 150, which is 30 points above the stated RoF cap for ARs. This significantly boosts her damage output due to the effect it has on the attack speed formula.
The actual formula to calculate attack speed is:
This formula can be simplified to: 1500/RoF
Round down. If the result is an integer, -1.
The result will mirror the amount of frames needed for a T-Doll to actually fire at such a rate.
AUG’s Skill setting her RoF to 150 means that when her Skill is active, her attack formula is set to 1500/150 = 10-1 = 9.
While this means that AUG should cycle through 9 frames per shot, after enough experimenting, Asian players found AUG actually cycles through 10 frames per shot. But even though AUG’s cycles are 2 frames shorter – as opposed to 3 frames shorter like they should be – her DPS is still significantly better than others in the support DPS class.
The downside to this Skill is that AUG is incapable of taking advantage of any RoF buffs, and players might find themselves shoehorned into using with her SMGs like UMP45 which do not provide RoF through tiles. Do keep in mind, though, that her role is to primarily buff other ARs, and the DPS she brings to the table is a nice plus and not what makes or breaks AUG.
Overall AUG is a very compelling choice in the support DPS role. The Damage and Accuracy tile buffs she provides along with her strong DPS makes her a great team member in general purpose AR/SMG Echelons.
ARs with Short Initial Cooldown
Although not necessarily, G41, Type 95, AR-15, Type 97 and G36 can be used with AUG in an Echelon that’s built for taking advantage of in-unison short Initial Cooldowns.
AUG provides very generic Damage and Accuracy bonuses that make her a good companion for basically all ARs.
This is the standard ARSMG Echelon formation. AUG should be on tile 4 — as is true of any Support DPS AR — to make the most out of her tile buffs.
The Steyr AUG is an Austrian bullpup assault rifle designed in the 1960s by Steyr-Damler-Puch. It was finally adopted by the Austrian Army in 1978 as the StG 77 and by the national police of Austria. Other AUG variants have been adopted by armed forces of dozens of other countries.
