FMG-9 is a unit that seems good at first glance, but performs extremely poorly due to a multitude of reasons.
Initially, FMG-9 seems to have a lot going for her. She has the highest Evasion out of all SMG, which should boost her tanking capabilities considerably, and although her tiles do buff Evasion, she does provide a 10% Damage buff -- which is already better than many of the buffs provided by other SMGs. Some features of her kit, however, make her extremely ineffective in practice. The first factor is her low HP -- while low Evasion can be somewhat be compensated for using Equipment and buff tiles, HP cannot be increased through these means. In addition, in practical applications her Skill ends up performing very poorly due to the diminishing returns to Evasion buffs. Overall, this makes FMG-9’s utility limited, even when compared with other SMGs who share her rarity. There are better choices than her in almost every situation.
Highest SMG Evasion
With a 90 base Evasion, FMG-9 has the highest Evasion stat out of all SMGs.
While it may seem at first glance that FMG-9’s Skill (which buffs her high Evasion even further) has great synergy with her stats, the Skill actually performs poorly for a variety of reasons.
FMG-9 has the lowest HP stat out of all SMGs, which hurts her tanking capabilities significantly.
FMG-9, for a variety of reasons, shows very poor performance in battles.
To an undiscerning eye, FMG-9’s kit may not seem that terrible. Although she has low HP, she has the highest Evasion out of all SMGs, which seems like it may compensate for her low HP. And although her tiles buff Evasion, they also buff Damage, which is an important buff for any AR. Her Skill seems like it has perfect synergy with her high Evasion, boosting her already high Evasion even further. These features may make her seem like a decent unit, if not a good one, but the reality of her situation is a lot more dire than it appears.
FMG-9’s flaws make her hard to use for a few important reasons. Her first problem is her stats -- even though her Evasion is the highest out of all SMG, her HP is the lowest out of all SMG, which severely hurts her tanking capabilities. While Evasion can be easily increased for through Equipment and tile buffs, HP cannot be changed at all, making it a far more valuable stat than Evasion. As the average health of an SMG is around 180 HP per Dummy, FMG-9, with her 141 base HP, has 1 to 1.5 Dummies’ worth of HP less than an average SMG. As Evasion tanking is overall unreliable against late-game foes, SMGs are bound to take hits, meaning FMG-9’s abysmal HP hurts her a lot more than her high Evasion helps her. In addition, her low HP makes her even worse against bosses -- if FMG-9 is even hit once, she’s affected much more than other SMGs would be.. Her 90 Evasion isn’t even enough to defend properly against bosses before her Skill activates, so she’ll often lose a sizable chunk of HP in the early moments of the battle.
Another downside to FMG-9 is her Skill. While it may seem that this Skill -- which buffs Evasion -- synergizes well with her high Evasion stat, it fails in practice for several reasons. Its long Initial Cooldown of 6 seconds means that FMG-9 will almost always be hit several times before it activates, and her low HP makes each hit hurt… a lot. Moreover, while the Skill itself boosts FMG-9’s Evasion, Evasion tanking against higher difficulty foes is unreliable no matter how high a unit’s Evasion gets due to foes’ higher Accuracy. This is especially true of Chapter 6 onwards, where Tier 2 enemies, with much higher Accuracy and Damage, start appearing. Many SMGs have Skills that help compensate for this jump in difficulty, from slowing the enemy down to simply KOing them before they can attack. As FMG-9 stubbornly pursues Evasion tanking with her Skill, however, she sees poor performance.
All in all, FMG-9 is a very disappointing unit who is readily and easily outclassed. Don’t be fooled by her cute looks -- while she may serve you well initially, she likely won’t for long.
As FMG-9 fills the role of a main tank, an SMG that can fill the role of offtank needs to be used with her. Some good offtank SMGs are Vector, SR-3MP, and Skorpion on occasion.
FMG-9 doesn’t require specific buffs from ARs, so any ARs work fine with her. Some examples of strong ARs that would make for good teammates are G11, G41, and T95.
FMG-9 fulfills the role of the main tank, which is made evident by her buff tile formation. Therefore, she is best put in the middle of the frontline.
The FMG-9 is a prototype folding machine gun designed by Magpul industries in 2008. It can be used for concealed carry and is able to be disguised as many things thanks to its folding nature. It is made out of light-weight polymers instead of metal in order to make the gun easier to carry and is not planned for production.
