G3 is a decent early-mid game AR for her high Damage and strong grenade skill. With the right SMGs to provide ROF buffs, G3 can be a solid choice for players trying to budget cores. She should not, however, be too heavily prioritized in the late game as her weak formation buff and low ROF leave her a few steps behind other higher rarity ARs.
Good AOE Damage
G3’s Anti-Personnel Grenade skill, while somewhat limited in range, deals high damage to affected enemies. It is therefore a great tool for clearing small clusters of high-HP enemies in extended battles.
G3 has fairly high max Damage, and if she is supplemented with ROF formation buffs she can become a powerful early-game damage dealer.
Low Base ROF
Although she has high Damage, G3 is tied for third-lowest ROF among ARs, making her somewhat weaker than other ARs in later stages of the game.
Weak Formation Buff
G3’s Formation buff is unfortunately quite ineffective, as it affects only the square directly above her. As such, she cannot buff SMGs in a standard F formation.
Gr G3’s main strength is in her high base Damage, which caps at about 10% above the AR class average. Her ROF, however, caps at a meager 61, about 15% below the AR average. Fortunately, many HGs and SMGs sport ROF Formation buffs, which helps to mitigate this downside.
G3 also provides good AOE damage with her Anti-Personnel Grenade skill, which at maximum rank deals 7.5x her Damage to all enemies in a 1 unit radius. Given her high base Damage, this skill allows G3 to clear out clusters of high HP enemies or deal decent damage to bosses. The skill does have a long Initial Cooldown of 8.0 seconds, however, so G3 may not always get the chance to activate it in shorter battles.
Unfortunately, G3 has an ineffective buff pattern that only affects the tile directly above her. This means that she can only provide buffs to SMGs when in a + formation, which is generally suboptimal for AR/SMG compositions. Ideally, G3 can be placed in the bottom slot of an F formation where the two ARs above her can buff the SMGs in the front column, but this does mean that her buff is wasted, making her a suboptimal AR choice.
Overall, G3 is a fairly decent choice for players who need a budget AR to get through the early game. Although she does not have an ideal formation buff pattern or particularly excellent maximum stats, she still performs well in most AR/SMG setups in the early game due to her high Damage and grenade skill.
SMGs with ROF/Crit formation buffs
G3 already has high base Damage, and so she benefits the most from SMGs that can increase her ROF or Crit rate such as UMP45, Vector, and Skorpion.
SMGs with Damage/Crit formation buffs
Alternatively, G3 pairs well with SMGs such as Ingram, G36C, and Thompson whose formation buffs further increase the damage of Anti-Personnel Grenade.
G3 fits into most AR/SMG compositions, and should be placed in the bottom position of an F formation so that the SMGs in the front column can ideally both benefit from the formation buffs of the other two ARs.
The Heckler & Koch G3 was born as an improvement from the SIG SG 510 and the FN FAL, and was adopted as the primary weapon for the military in West Germany during the Cold War in 1959. Over the years, G3 has been adopted by more than forty countries and became the basis for several sniper and machine gun models including the PSG1, MSG90, and MK21. Although the G36 has since replaced the G3 as the primary weapon for the German military, large quantities of G3 variants are still kept in reserve and maintained for emergency use.
