Despite being somewhat of a meme among the community due to her rather… distinctive voice and being the guardian of Grizzly, IDW is actually a fairly effective early and mid-game tank due to her exceptional Evasion. Although she falls short in the damage dealing department if she is not given buffs and/or powerful equipment, IDW should not be overlooked as a low core cost main tank to get players through the early stages of the game.
She’ll still mercilessly meme you out of getting Grizzly, though.
High Base Evasion Among SMGs
IDW boasts the second-highest max EVA among all SMGs, making her an effective early game dodge tank.
Evasion-Boosting Cover Focus Skill
In addition to her high base EVA, IDW also has the Cover Focus skill which greatly increases her Evasion for a short period.

Mediocre Formation Buff
IDW’s formation buff applies to all three spaces behind her, but it only provides a solitary 20% Evasion bonus to ARs. This is more or less useless given that SMGs should always be in front of ARs, which makes an AR’s EVA largely unnecessary.
Low Overall Stats
IDW has the lowest HP among SMGs and is tied for both third-lowest Damage and second-lowest ROF among her T-Doll class, leaving her with subpar damage output and a harder late game fall-off compared to other SMGs.

Again, self explanatory
IDW’s main strength is in her exceptional Evasion cap of 85, which is over 25% more than the average EVA cap among SMGs. Her HP, Damage, Accuracy, and Rate of Fire, however, are all below the class averages, meaning that IDW’s overall performance falls off in the late game compared to other SMGs.
IDW’s formation buff is also not particularly powerful, as it only provides an Evasion bonus to affected ARs. Although this may save an AR that is not directly covered by SMGs in an F formation from taking some damage, an AR-SMG Echelon usually benefits more from damage or crit buffs provided from its tanks rather than Evasion buffs.
In the early game, though, IDW performs quite well. At level 1, the Cover Focus skill increases her evasion by 60% for 3.0 seconds, increasing to 110% for 5.0 seconds at max skill level. Although most players will never spend the resources to raise IDW to these maximum levels, a 60% increase on above-average base Evasion is still significant enough to make a noticeable impact on IDW’s survivability in the early game.
Overall, IDW is a fairly effective early-game Main Tank choice for players looking to conserve cores for rarer SMGs they obtain later on. Her overall performance drops in later stages due to her below-average statline and poor formation buff, but IDW can still find a place in the Echelons of new players who are more limited in their SMG options.
ARs with DMG/ACC/ROF formation buffs
IDW benefits from being in a formation with ARs that can help patch up her somewhat lower damage output. Examples include SIG-510, Type 63, and OTs-12.
HGs with EVA-affecting skills
IDW also benefits from being able to increase her Evasion as much as possible, and as such pairs well with HGs like Tokarev, Welrod MkII, and P08.
This is the standard 2SMG 3AR formation which is most commonly recommended for starting players, and is where IDW will most likely see the most use. IDW should generally function as the Main Tank in this formation, placed in position 5 in front of a row of ARs.
The Bushman IDW, later known as the Parker Hale PDW, was designed by George D. Ealovega and utilized his patented “rate regulator” technology -- consisting of a computer chip connected to a hydraulic system that controlled the weapon’s rate of fire. The IDW was ultimately never used by any military or police force, however, referenced in IDW’s introduction line in-game where she asks if anyone will adopt her.
