BAR sees limited usage on MG compositions due to being a second volley MG -- luckily for her, though, BAR’s Armor tile buff allows her to fit into Armor focused MG/SG Echelon compositions, which serves to supplement our favorite Auntie’s overall viability by a fair deal. BAR’s high Damage and her Skill allows her to scale greatly from Damage buffs in her second volley to pump out monstrous damage to deal with bosses in the later stages of the game, but ultimately falls behind in utility when compared to passive Skill MGs who activate their Skill as soon as the battle begins.
BAR is one of the few MGs blessed with a much appreciated Armor tile buff for SGs.
Very Strong Second Clip Damage
BAR’s 8 second Cooldown Skill allows her to pump out amazing damage in her second volley and scale greatly from Damage buffs.
BAR’s high Damage and Accuracy stats allow her take great advantage of Damage buffs and forego Accuracy-increasing Equipment such as Holo Sight to utilize a VFL Crit Scope instead.
High Initial Skill Cooldown
Although BAR’s Skill allows her to deal amazing damage in her second volley, this is counterproductive for MGs as they are meant to focus on the first volley and therefore limits her usage.
M1918 Auntie BAR is a delusional American Machine Gun that believes herself to be an Assault Rifle and therefore decided to sport an AR Skill to aid her case.
BAR will find use in MG/SG Echelon compositions that aim to increase Armor as much as possible, and in these teams she is quite versatile due to straight line tile coverage which allows her to be placed in any part of the backline. Auntie BAR’s 8 second initial Cooldown renders her without a Skill activation in regular battles since battles involving MG Echelons tend to end in under 6 seconds. She will therefore find herself outclassed by the likes of LWMMG and M1919A4 due to their shorter Initial cooldowns as well as all passive Skill MGs. BAR’s second volley damage is not to be underestimated, though, as she can decimate any boss in the game with it. In these situations BAR is extremely useful, though she may not see much general use.
BAR’s high Accuracy stat exonerates her from need of Accuracy buffing Equipment such as Holo Sight so she can instead use the superior VFL Crit Scope -- though for the sake of consistency, when employing a VFL BAR should really have an Accuracy buffing teammate such as SAA.
Although BAR’s second volley is her greatest strength, it is also the reason she is only mediocre because MGs are sought after for their first volley performance. This weakness can be partially remediated by reload cancelling, a tactic that consists of moving BAR forward and back instantly to cancel her reload animation midway and allow her to start shooting a lot earlier than she technically should. This is completely legal and can be done as soon as BAR pulls a new magazine out of her… skirt, but some players may find it cumbersome and therefore may choose to use a different MG.
Overall, while BAR is not the best of the best, she is a completely workable doll and a situationally great one, so while it is not a priority to invest in her, it is also not a mistake. Passive Skill MGs are generally more user friendly, but that does not make BAR a bad choice.
Accuracy and Damage buffers
Like all MGs, BAR benefits from buffs to these stats the most, and some of the best teammates for her are Mk23, SAA, and M1895.
Armor Buffing MGs
If an Armor focused Echelon is the goal, BAR can be paired with MG5 and Negev whose tiles bestow Armor buffs to SGs.
In orthodox 2MG 2HG 1SG Echelons, BAR’s tile buff is usually wasted in order to fit a proper HG that buffs BAR and the other MGs with strong Damage and Accuracy/Crit buffs. For Echelons that focus on buffing the SG’s Armor, BAR will most likely be employed in the middle as the other MGs can be placed in either of the corners and still reach the SGs with their buffs.
The M1918 BAR was the first model of the Browning Automatic Rifle series. It was first designed in 1917 by John Browning and entered production in that very year until 1945. The M1918 saw service until the early 1970s.
